The MOvIT+™ program facilitates the follow-up of assistive technology users and their caregivers. MOvIT+™ reduces negative consequences associated with an inadequate use of various types of assistive technologies.

The MOvIT+™ program has been developed by researchers associated with various Canadian universities in collaboration with several partners:

The 2017-2020 pilot project is funded by the AGE-WELL Canadian Network of Centres of Excellence, which aims at helping older Canadians maintain their independence, health and quality of life through accessible and easy-to-use technologies.

MOvIT+™ is presently being implemented in four healthcare facilities in the Greater Montreal associated with the CIUSSS du Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, the CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal and the CISSS de Laval.

The MOvIT+™ program facilitates the follow-up of assistive technology users and their caregivers. MOvIT+™ reduces negative consequences associated with an inadequate use of various types of assistive technologies.

Studies reveal that more than half of individuals receiving assistive technologies are likely to misuse or discontinue its use within a year. The main reasons for discontinuing the use of assistive technologies are the lack of confidence and technical problems associated with their use. Assistive technology users or their caregivers may initiate contact with a clinician, but they do not necessarily know what is important to report, when to report it, who they should be contacting, nor what information to look for.

MOvIT+™ allows assistive technology users and their caregivers to identify the potential problems associated with assistive technology use and informs them about best practices. The program ensures that all information and resources are regrouped in one place. The online resources and remote coaching offered as part of the MOvIT+™ program enable safe and satisfactory use of assistive technologies.

The MOvIT+™ team is led by two researchers, with the participation of several collaborators from various fields.

Claudine Auger, PhD

Occupational Therapist

Claudine Auger is associate professor at Université de Montréal and researcher at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Rehabilitation of Greater Montréal (CRIR). She leads projects that address technologies used to help adults with physical disabilities and their relatives that foster autonomy within the community.

Sara Ahmed, PhD

Physiotherapist

Sara Ahmed is associate professor at McGill University and researcher at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Rehabilitation of Greater Montréal (CRIR). She conducts research aimed at improving health outcomes for individuals with chronic disease.
